“If you saw a heat wave, would you wave back?” —Steven Wright
Originally we’d planned on doing a little more of a challenging hike over the weekend, but the heatwave changed our mind. We decided to just go swimming instead, a decision we don’t regret. So we went to Cascade Lakes near Soda Springs.

Snakes & Dragons
When we first got on the dirt road leading up to Cascade Lakes, we were worried there would be lots of people there, but upon arriving we were pleasantly surprised.
I guess most of the parked cars in the area were there for the hikes to Long Lake or the American River. As it was, we mostly had our little beach area to ourselves.
We brought our dragon tube which we all enjoyed floating on, except Maev who was mostly interested in playing in the mud. We spent a good deal of time swimming around and enjoying the sunshine. We also saw a native garter snake swim by in the water.

Oh, Poop
We ate lunch in the shade and explored more of the rocky shore. As usual, Magnus and Maev enjoyed throwing rocks to make some big splashes in the water.
Everything was pretty much smooth sailing except for two consecutive poop fiascos—one for each kid. I won’t gross you out with the details, but let’s just say I’m glad we were at a body of water so we could wash off.
Ah, the joys of parenting small children. Am I right?
Until next time!
this makes me laugh!
By the way, I love the dragon!!
